Rudy Vallee Signed Lord Ffogg Batman Display

"I haven't the foggiest notion, Batman!"

This superb display of one of Gotham's greatest criminal minds features the signature of Rudy Vallee and a great picture of Robin in some difficulty with Lord Marmaduke Ffogg looking on. This piece has been professionally doubled matted using acid free materials. Be sure to check out our other Batman display pieces.  Lord Marmaduke Ffogg and his sister, Lady Penelope Peasoup, are well known throughout Londinium as typical upper-class citizens. But in fact, they led quite a different life away from the public eye. They started a ladies' finishing school on their estate, which claimed to teach young girls how to fend for themselves, but in actuality trained young thieves.

And the lord and lady themselves had a habit of breaking into the homes of Londinium aristocrats and removing their valuables. After baffling the inspectors at venerable Ireland Yard for some time, Batman and Robin were called in to investigate. Within moments after arriving, Batman suspected who the culprits were and wrapped the case up not long afterwards. Ffogg was a crafty villain who always made his escape by using man made fog which came out of his pipe. He also pretended that he had gout on his foot so that he wouldn't be suspected of any of his crimes. But he found out that not even fog can slow down Batman and was taken to Londinium Tombs.

For those unfamiliar with the Batman story, which first appeared in comic books in 1939, Batman is Bruce Wayne. Teenager Bruce Wayne was traumatized by witnessing his parent’s murder and vowed to avenge their deaths by bringing the criminals to justice. Bruce Wayne used his vast fortune to study criminology, to train his body to athletic perfection, and to acquire high tech vehicles and weapons to fight crime in his hometown of Gotham. One night Bruce Wayne was startled by a bat outside his window and decided to dress himself as a “bat man” to strike fear in the “cowardly and superstitious” hearts of criminals. From that moment forward, Bruce Wayne became “Batman” in his altered state.

Bob Kane, the creator, introduced Batman’s young sidekick, Robin the Boy Wonder into comics in 1940 to give Batman someone to talk to. Together, Batman and Robin hit new highs in popularity ratings. The live-action “Batman” show was aired by ABC Network in 1966. At the time, Batman was third in comic book popularity, behind Superman and Dick Tracy. Since the latter were not available, ABC bought the television rights to Batman. ABC spent huge sums of money producing the show. One report quotes $800,000 to build the Batcave set alone. Unfortunately, the show went over budget by over a million dollars a year and ABC did not realize any profit during the original production of Batman. After three seasons and 120 episodes, ABC ended production of the show.

The cult 1960s series Batman continues to entertain Batfans across the globe. Adam West and Burt Ward's colourful and cheesy take on the Dynamic Duo is quite a contrast to the dark on gothic feel of the recent Hollywood movies. The series took the world by storm during the swinging sixties and its popularity shows no sign of waning. As Robin would say:-

Holy autographic opportunity of a lifetime Batman!
