Fawlty Towers Signed Display - Cleese, Scales, Booth & Sachs

"Are you still here Basil?" "No, I went a couple minutes ago, dear, but I expect I'll be back shortly"

This great picture celebrates the genius wit of the classic UK sitcom Fawlty Towers. It includes a black and white photo of a fully manned hotel reception with the signatures of John Cleese, Prunella Scales, Andrew Sachs and Connie Booth. The piece has been professionally double matted using acid free materials and would be perfect for any fan of the show - which let's face it is just about everyone! The British sitcom by which all other British sitcoms must be judged, Fawlty Towers withstands multiple viewings, is eminently quotable, and stands up to this day as a jewel in the BBC's comedy crown.

Fawlty Towers was first broadcast on BBC2 in 1975 and 1979. Only 12 episodes were made (two series, each of six episodes). The show was written by John Cleese and Connie Booth, who both also starred in the show; they were married at the time of series 1 but divorced before recording series 2. The series is set in Fawlty Towers, a fictional hotel in the seaside town of Torquay, on the "English Riviera". The plots centre on tense, rude and put-upon owner Basil Fawlty (Cleese), his bossy wife Sybil (Prunella Scales), comparatively normal chambermaid Polly (Booth), and hapless Spanish waiter Manuel (Andrew Sachs), showing their attempts to run the hotel amidst farcical situations and an array of demanding and eccentric guests.

Fawlty Towers was famously inspired by a seethingly rude hotel proprietor John Cleese encountered whilst away filming with the Monty Python team. Unwittingly, Donald Sinclair became the blueprint for Basil Fawlty, the epitome of frustrated, social climbing middle-Englanders. As if further proof were needed of the impact the show had on the country, in a list drawn up by the British Film Institute in 2000, voted by industry professionals, Fawlty Towers was named the best British television series of all time.

Don't mention the war....
