Mary Costa Signed Sleeping Beauty Display

"The Princess shall indeed grow in grace and beauty, beloved by all who know her. But, before the sun sets on her 16th birthday, she shall prick her finger, on the spindle of a spinning wheel - AND DIE!"

This tremendous display consists of a poster reproduction from the 1959 Disney classic Sleeping Beauty and the signature of Mary Costa the voice of Princess Aurora.  As you would expect Disney's adaptation of the classic fairy tale is simply superb. Princess Aurora is cursed by the evil witch Maleficent - who declares that before Aurora reaches her 16th birthday she will die by a poisoned spinning-wheel. To try to prevent this, the king places her into hiding, in the care of three goodnatured - but not too bright - fairies.

Sleeping Beauty is a 1959 American animated musical fantasy film produced by Walt Disney and based on La Belle au bois dormant by Charles Perrault and based also on Little Briar Rose by The Brothers Grimm. The 16th film in the Walt Disney Animated Classics series, it was released to theaters on January 29, 1959, by Buena Vista Distribution. This was the last Disney adaptation of a fairy tale for some years - the studio did not return to the genre until years later, after Walt Disney died, with the release of The Little Mermaid (1989).

Sleeping Beauty was the first animated film to be photographed in the Super Technirama 70 widescreen process, as well as the second full-length animated feature film to be filmed in ultra widescreen, following Disney's own Lady and the Tramp four years earlier. The film was presented in Super Technirama 70 and 6-channel stereophonic sound in first-run engagements. Only one other animated film, Disney's The Black Cauldron (1985), was shot in Technirama 70. Sleeping Beauty would be the only instance that a Disney animated fairy tale would be filmed in the ultra widescreen film format until Frozen (2013), fifty-four years later.
