Winnie The Pooh Signed Display

"The only reason for being a bee is to make honey. And the only reason for making honey is so I can eat it."

This lovely display features a delightful picture of Winnie the Pooh and Piglet, together with the signatures of Sterling Holloway and John Fiedler who voiced the characters in so many of the Disney films. The item has been double matted to an overall size of 14x13.5 inches and will be loved by Pooh fans everywhere and would make the perfect addition to any nursery. Sadly both John and Sterling have now passed away, making this a most collectible item. Sterling, in particular, is a difficult signature to obtain in authentic form.

Winnie the Pooh, a bear of very little brain, tends to be a bit on the slow side (his head is full of fluff, you know...a common occurrence among teddy bears) but his heart more than makes up for that. Pooh has a love of honey (or, hunny, as it is sometimes spelled) and often creates little tunes, or hums, about most anything at all. He is also the inventer of the famous game 'Poohsticks' and discoverer of the 'North Pole'. For his brave actions he is honoured as a 'Hero' and knighted to 'Sir Pooh de Bear' by Christopher Robin.

Piglet, probably Pooh's best friend, is sometimes a very brave animal for such a very small and timid pink pig. Maybe that is why he is the only animal in the forest who has ever seen a real Heffalump (or was it Pooh he saw?). Piglet likes to wear a long striped shirt (This shirt used to be green but Disney changed it to pink) and his favourite food is Haycorns. Piglet used to live in a Beech Tree, south of Pooh's house, 100 Acre Wood Southwest. Next to this house was a piece of a broken sign which read, "Trespassers W." This was believed to be Piglet's grandfather's name, and it is short for "Trespassers Will", which is short for "Trespassers William". Piglet's grandfather had had two names in case he lost one - Trespassers after his uncle, and William after Trespassers. Since Owl moved into Piglet's house, Piglet moved in with Pooh.

Sterling Holloway was a popular American character actor of amusing appearance and voice whose long career led from dozens of highly enjoyable onscreen performances to world-wide familiarity as the voice of numerous Walt Disney animated films. Born in the American Deep South to grocer Sterling P. Holloway Sr. and Rebecca Boothby Holloway, he had a younger brother, Boothby. Holloway spent his early years as an actor playing comic juveniles on the stage. His bushy reddish-blond hair and trademark near-falsetto voice made him a natural for sound pictures, and he acted in scores of talkies, although he had made his picture debut in silents. His physical image and voice relegated him almost exclusively to comic roles, but in 1945, director Lewis Milestone cast him more or less against type in the classic war film A Walk in the Sun (1945), where Holloway's portrayal of a reluctant soldier was quite notable. He played frequently on television, becoming familiar to baby-boomers in a recurring role as Uncle Oscar on "Adventures of Superman" (1952), and later in television series of his own. His later work as the voice of numerous characters in Disney cartoons brought him new audiences and many fans, especially for his voicing of beloved Winnie the Pooh. He died in 1992.

Typical of busy character actors, John Fielder has made his face--and voice--recognizable to millions. Many would know the bald-pated Fiedler as therapy patient Mr. Peterson on TV's "The Bob Newhart Show" (1972); others might first recognize him for the 1968 movie and spin-off TV series "The Odd Couple" (1970) (or perhaps even from the Broadway play that preceded them). Even kids would know that helium-high voice from animated Disney features like Robin Hood (1973), The Fox and the Hound (1981) and the "Winnie the Pooh" stories in which he voices Piglet. The son of an Irish-German beer salesman, Fiedler knew he wanted to be an actor from the childhood days when he had a full head of reddish-yellow hair. He made his first professional appearances on stage, branched out into live TV in New York and, then, during the 20 years he lived in Hollywood (1960-80), turned up in many films and an ever greater number of popular TV series. John voiced Piglet right up until his death in 2005. Whether you put it in your office, lounge, study or nursery, the magic of Hundred Acre Wood will be closer than ever!
