When commercial towing vehicle Nostromo, heading back to Earth, intercepts an SoS signal from a nearby planet, the crew are under obligation to investigate. Parasitic wasp embryos are injected into caterpillars by their mothers, and use a virus in their DNA to paralyze their host.For 14 days they peacefully develop. Then, they bite their way out of the caterpillar, and without a second glance begin spinning cocoons. Instead of getting out of there as fast as they can, the brain-addled caterpillars build blankets over their attackers to defend them against predators until they emerge as fully-formed wasps ready to create parasitic babies of their own.
